Upper Cabinets Pulling Away From the Wall
A dark line along the top of a wall cabinet, wider at the top than the bottom, means the cabinet is leaning off its screws. Empty it before anything else.

Painted or Stained Cabinets, and Which Lasts
The finish is the first thing you see and the first thing to show its age. Paint and stain wear differently, and the difference is worth knowing before you choose.

Why cabinetry here is not like cabinetry anywhere else.
Builder-grade cabinet boxes in Middle Tennessee homes from the 1990s and 2000s are frequently better made than what would replace them at the same price — solid plywood or thick particleboard carcasses with real face frames, in oak or maple that has simply gone out of fashion. Refinishing or refacing those is often the honest recommendation, and it is a legitimate answer rather than a compromise.
Older Nashville homes present the opposite problem. Pre-war houses have out-of-square walls, uneven floors and ceiling heights that no stock cabinet run addresses, and the plaster behind them does not take fasteners the way drywall does. Those kitchens are where custom cabinetry earns its cost, because scribing to the room is the entire job.

FAQ
Cabinets in Nashville — questions
How much does cabinetry cost in Nashville?
Cabinets in Nashville are priced by the linear foot or the box, and the tier — stock, semi-custom, custom — moves the number three to one; the installation, the removal of the old cabinets and the countertop are separate lines the quote should show.
How fast can you get someone out?
A measure in Nashville is usually within a week or two; custom cabinets take weeks to build, semi-custom weeks to ship, and the installation is a few days once they land.
What areas do you cover?
Cabinet makers and installers serving Nashville also cover Franklin, Brentwood, Murfreesboro, Hendersonville; the range runs to 65 towns in 12 counties.
Are you licensed and insured?
Every cabinet maker and installer on our crews carries liability insurance on file with us, and the ones building custom work have shops and finished kitchens we have seen.
Do you charge for an estimate?
No — free, written, and no obligation.
What if something goes wrong afterwards?
Send the form; the workmanship is backed in writing.
Should I reface, paint or replace my cabinets?
Paint if the boxes and doors are solid wood and the layout works — it is the cheapest transformation by a wide margin. Reface when doors are dated or damaged but boxes are sound. Replace when the layout is wrong, the boxes are swollen particleboard, or you need different sizes. Painting particleboard doors with a laminate face rarely holds and is the most common regret.
What is the difference between stock, semi-custom and custom cabinets?
Stock comes in fixed sizes off the shelf, is the least expensive and is available quickly. Semi-custom is built to order in standard sizes with a choice of finishes and modifications, and typically runs six to ten weeks. Custom is built to your dimensions with no size constraint, costs the most, and suits awkward spaces and older houses where nothing is square.
Why are my cabinet doors sagging or delaminating?
Sagging is hinge failure or screws pulling out of particleboard — often fixable with longer screws or new hinges. Delamination is the thermofoil or laminate skin lifting from the substrate, usually next to a heat source such as an oven or a dishwasher vent. Delaminated doors cannot be repaired invisibly; they are replaced or the whole set is refaced.
How long do custom cabinets take?
Typically six to twelve weeks from final measurement to installation, with the drawing and approval stage before that. Installation itself is usually two to four days. The lead time is the item that most often sets the schedule of a whole kitchen remodel, which is why cabinets are ordered early rather than after demolition begins.
How can I add storage without replacing the cabinets?
Interior fittings do most of the work: pull-out shelves in base cabinets, drawer dividers, vertical dividers for trays, and a shelf added to a tall cabinet. Deep base cabinets waste more space than any other part of a kitchen because the back is unreachable, and converting them to drawers or pull-outs recovers it without touching the layout.
